The Luftwaffe is a 1930's to 1940's military style pilot’s jacket. The tapered and short jacket design was perfect in the cold and drafty cockpit of the early Messerschmitt warplanes. These jackets were adopted by a number of Luftwaffe pilots as part of their uniform. Ruggedly handsome with just the right amount of vintage and functional details: Understated Elegance.
The double breasted or "Doppelreihiger" Luftwaffe style was made famous by the German flying ace Hans Joachim Marseille. The trench coat was used by officers in WWI. The style was dubbed "trench coat" by the front line soldiers in the trenches. The elegant style soon gained popularity off the battlefield as well. During WWII many variations of the style emerged. Our version is loosely based on US Army patterns of this period. The elegant double breasted longer pattern provides perfect protection. An enduring style that hasn’t aged for nearly a century.
The "Gangster" is inspired by the wool overcoats worn in the 1930's and 40's. This design is reminiscent of the styles worn by James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart in the movies. It harks back to a time when gentlemen cared just as much about looking good as they did about protection from the elements. No boxy, straight, minimal styling here..
